Indoor track and field put UMass Boston on the map in the early and mid 1980s as the women’s squad captured three straight NCAA national championships, including the sports’ first-ever national title in 1985. The women also dominated the national field as individuals, combining to win nine national titles, while setting a number of championship records, including Genesia Eddins’ standard in the 800 meters, which still stands today after more than 20 years.

UMass Boston has seen 15 of its male and female athletes combine to achieve All-America status 41 times, including Rob Grieco’s national championship effort in the shot put in 1998.

The Beacons have placed among the top 15 six times at the NCAA championships in either women’s and men’s competition, including an 11th-place showing by the men in 1998.
